Paintings

Painting is a very new thing for me. I did a few fledgling oils and acrylics in elementary school but have mainly kept to sketching and digital art over the years. I finished my very first watercolor earlier in 2010, and I have only done four to date with a few more in the pipeline. Thusfar I have done them as gifts for relatives, several of them children. The style is somewhat similar to comic art, as I first draw them in pencil then "ink" them with pens and color with watercolor pencils. The final touch is going in and adding depth and nuance with a wet brush, using the watercolor pencils like I would a palette. I'm fairly pleased with them, despite having far to go. I enjoy them immensely, though, and would like to continue to expand my skills in this area.

Sketches, Digital Paintings, Other Sundries

Just a quick sketch done, inked and colored with pencils in an hour or so. Based on a drawing exercise in Michael Butkus' excellent "How to Draw Zombies." At some point I will go back and actually follow the steps in the exercise, but I just felt the need to zip out a quick sketch and see it in color.
My first foray into digital painting and inking. Scanned a sketch I did and inked over it digitally in Photoshop, then painted in color and shadows and highlights. A label design for my buddies at Straight to Ale.

Digital painting, take two. A gift for my stepson. Sketched on paper, scanned and digitally inked/colored in Photoshop.
A digital painting of Wolverine for my stepson. Sketched on Bristol in non-photo blue pencil, inked with technical pens, scanned and digitally colored in Photoshop.
The final label created with the digital painting from above. Pretty happy with the results.
A blonde version of Wonder Woman I did as a tribute to my beautiful (blonde) wife. Sketched on Bristol in non-photo blue pencil, inked with technical pens, scanned and digitally colored in Photoshop.
Another digital painting for my stepson. Sketched in graphite on paper, scanned and then digitally inked and colored in Photoshop. As it was a birthday gift and I was in a huge hurry to finish, I took a cityscape photo and ran a comic filter and did some other tweaks for the background as opposed to sketching it freehand.
Spider-Man and some of his more famous villains. Sketched with graphite on rough watercolor paper and inked with technical pens. Scanned and digitally colored in Photoshop. This is not the final version, however. The actual inked sketch will be done in watercolor pencils, but I wanted to have a digital version to play with.
