That is more interesting than most shit I read on the internet...post on.
Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas and oil, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off. We apologize for any in convenience.

Very cool, Matt. So what are the big differences between a Jazz and P-bass aside from the neck size?
I've noticed the P-bass neck is considerably wider than the Jazz.

Other than that and how they look, it just has a single pickup so there are less tonal possibilities but they still sound great to my ears. Generally thumpier than a Jazz which is mid-rangier. Listen to What's Going On by Marvin Gaye or Suite Judy Blue Eyes by Crosby Stills & Nash and you'll get a taste of what a PBass is all about. Those were recorded with flatwound strings too.

Thanks Matt. I'll check out those tunes. I liked the Geddy Lee Jazz I had but I wasnt crazy bout the tone. Maybe I'll try a p-bass out sometime. If its got more thump and low end to it, I'm sure I'd like it.

Cool Matt, I've been playing my P more than my J lately. Have you settled on pickups?

Yeah I'm using this pickup here:

I played one of these in a '78 Precision I used to own and loved it. :headbang:

You also ought to try something with a P/J configuration too, like a Fender Hot Rod Precision. The bridge pickup will give it more bite along with the thump of the P pickup. I had a '77 PBass that was modded this way and it ruled.

Good idea Matt. I always liked the looks of the Jazz Bass Specials that Duff used to play with the p/j pickups.

Wow, Matt... that bass is GORGEOUS. Looking forward to hearing you play it.

Great fount of information here, too. Nothing like a P-Bass to put rock'n'roll in perspective. That bass is on EVERYTHING cool. And if it's good enough for Duck Dunn...

True indeed, thanks. The rest of the parts arrive in a couple days. It should be together soon.

Ever played a Telecaster bass?

Here's Bill Black's, played onstage with Elvis circa 1957:
